Welcome to Telos Research

Telos Research in 2008

Telos Research is now in its third year which is proving to be even busier than years one and two. We continue to work with a wide variety of clients from across the not-for-profit sector, encompassing health and educational establishments, charities, and arts organisations.

Throughout 2007 and 2008, there has been a marked increase in the number of approaches we have had from universities needing prospect research support. Much of this increase in demand for prospect research has been a result of the government’s schemes to support universities in their fundraising, announced in February 2007, which saw the top 75 UK universities receiving matched funding of £1 for every £2 donated by alumni and others. This scheme follows the 2006 initiative to provide £7.5 million in matched funding to 27 UK universities to help them to establish development offices. Overall universities have seen a strong leveraging of the incentive to seek funds from private sources and those smaller establishments without the existing infrastructure to do this have been provided with the capacity to develop such frameworks. We expect that over the next few years, we will see a further gathering of momentum for university fundraising.

Training, especially on a one-to-one basis, is another area in which we have noted a substantial increase in demand. We are optimistic that this may well be due to the growth in numbers of organisations which take prospect research sufficiently seriously to allocate at least one member of staff to this task and to invest in developing his or her skills in this area.

We continue to deliver introductory workshops for those new to prospect research in collaboration with Robin Jones. Our next event is scheduled for 14th January 2009. Please see the workshop area of the site for further details and to download a booking form.

Rebecca remains as Chair of the Events Committee for Researchers in Fundraising and preparations are currently underway for the RiF Christmas Conference which is scheduled for 15th December 2008. More details will be available presently via the Researchers in Fundraising website

All in all it has been an extremely full year and so far, we have been unable to fit in producing a second newsletter. We will do so as soon as we have a space in the research diary – although given that no such opportunity has presented itself in the past year, we are reluctant to suggest a date as to when this might happen!
